Summary: 1 snowshoer caught and killed

A beloved Seattle entrepreneur, conservationist, philanthropist, and outdoorsman was found dead on News Year's Day morning on Granite Mountain. The 64-year-old man was snowshoeing with friends on Thursday when winds increased. The friends turned around while the subject continued upwards. When he failed to return to the parking lot, they notified authorities. Upwards of 60 rescuers searched through the night. The subject's body was spotted in avalanche debris Friday morning.

This is the third fatal accident on Granite Mountain in three years. To this total, avalanches on Granite Mountain also claimed a life in the 1950s, two lives in the 1960s, and another life in the 1980s.
