Summary: Snowmobiler buried and lived.

At approximately 1630, 1-27-01 several snowmobilers were high marking on a W/NW aspect at

approximately 8,200' on Ash Creek Butte (8,378'). It's a cinder cone that has a crater on the W/NW side. The

first rider went up into the crater area and high marked almost all the way to the top. The second rider

went up, and just as he was making it to the top the slope failed. The snowmobile and the rider were buried

5 feet under the debris.

The rider was able to get a hand above the surface. The other riders were able to dig him out within 4

minutes. No injuries were incurred.

The riders had transceivers, probes, and shovels, but had left them at home?

Weather:

It was a clear day, with the high pressure setting in and a total of 24" snow from the previous three

days. The winds were ranging from 30-50mph from the East, and the temps were in the teens.

The rest of the particulars are still to come.
