Canadian Press

Tuesday, April 08, 2003

GOLDEN (CP) -- A

26-year-old Alberta man

was identified Monday as the

latest victim of British

Columbia's deadly avalanche

season.

Golden RCMP said Trevor

Deckert of Leduc, near

Edmonton, was buried

Sunday while snowmobiling

about 10 kilometres

northwest of Golden, near

the Alberta border.

Deckert was the 27th victim of avalanches in British Columbia and Alberta

this season and the second snowmobiler from Leduc to die.

Dan Rains, 50, died in a slide in December near Valemount. Golden Mayor

Jim Doyle said back-country enthusiasts continue to head into the hills

despite the increased danger of avalanches.
