Preliminary information from Kebler Pass fatality.

Soft slab failed on a South wrapping to South/Southeast aspect below treeline. Sister 6 Slide Path. Start zone at 10,300 ft and ran across Kebler Pass Road and up the adjacent hillside next to Splains Gulch Road, at 9,650 ft. Slope angles of start zone ranged from 32 to 40 degrees. Triggered by a snowmobile sidehilling low on the slope. The crown ranged from 1 foot to 3 feet deep, averaging 30". The avalanche failed as a large storm slab on decomposing fragmented particles, a few inches above the February 2nd melt-freeze crust, and ran on the crust. Burial was 8 feet deep, debris piles up to ~20 feet deep. SS-AM-R3-D2.5-S. A full report will be published in the next few weeks.
